Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common inquiries

My pet is getting their vaccines updated 1-6 days before their first day of boarding. Can my pet still board with you?

No. It takes a minimum of 7 days for the vaccines to take full effect. Some vaccines are given live, and in rare cases, animals can transmit the disease within 7 days of receiving the live vaccine. For the safety of all the pets in our care, we only allow pets who are up to date on their vaccines, and the vaccines were administered at least 7 days before the first day of their stay.

No. In rare cases, pets can have reactions to vaccinations. For this reason, we recommend that pets be monitored closely for adverse reactions after receiving vaccines. Since we are not staffed 24 hours a day, we do not allow pets to get vaccines during their stay, except on the last day of their stay before check-out (subject to availability). For extended multi-week stays, please call our office.

Yes! We have special rooms and yards specifically for our vaccine-exempt guests at no additional charge. Documentation must be provided by a licensed veterinarian stating that your pet is vaccine-exempt.

Yes! As long as your puppy or kitten has received at least their first two rounds of vaccinations (last round given at least 7 days before the first day of stay), has had a negative fecal result in the last 6 months or owner agrees to have fecal test ran during pet's stay, and the pet is on parasite prevention, we will gladly house them at our Pet Hotel!

Yes! Our staff is trained to handle animals in a fear-free manner. We have special quiet rooms available just for our anxious guests at no additional cost.

We also work with aggressive guests to provide the most comfortable stay possible. Our guests are never socialized together unless they come from the same household and get along. We also offer anti-anxiety medications for an additional fee.

We offer complementary Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Skin and Stomach dry food, a high-quality quality veterinarian-recommended food. You're welcome to bring your own food for your pet's stay. In fact, we highly recommend bringing food from home. Abruptly changing a pet's diet can cause an upset stomach.

Be sure to be very specific at check-in regarding your pet's feeding amounts and schedule to help ensure your pet's meal routine is maintained, and you do not run out of food.

Yes! Your pet is more than welcome to bring their luggage with them for their stay. Although we take care to keep everyone's luggage labeled and separated, bringing these items is at the owner's discretion. We are not held responsible for lost luggage.

We have beds, blankets, and toys available should you choose to stay luggage-free. Complimentary laundry service (we use sensitive, dye-free, pet-safe detergent) is provided.

It is normal for pets to be a little anxious when boarding, especially if it's their first time. Anxiety can cause several health concerns, primarily fear-aggression and diarrhea. We have anti-anxiety and anti-diarrheal medication on hand if needed for an additional fee.

Our staff is trained in fear-free techniques to help ease anxiety and to notice signs and symptoms of illness. If your pet is showing signs of illness, a staff member will reach out to you about scheduling an exam with one of our on-site doctors. If a staff member is unable to reach the owner, they will reach out to your emergency contact(s). If a staff member is unable to reach the owner or any emergency contacts within a reasonable time frame, necessary medical attention will be given at cost to the owner.

Pet guests are routinely monitored daily between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm. Our veterinarians' schedules differ throughout the week, but are on-site Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-7:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-6:00 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am-1:00 pm. A veterinarian is on-call outside of the hospital's normal working hours to assist should a pet become ill or hurt.

All medical expenses accrued are at the cost of the owner. If a pet requires emergency intervention that Bradford Hills is not equipped or staffed to perform, or if the pet should require 24-hour monitoring, the owner or an emergency contact will be asked to transport the pet to a nearby emergency or 24-hour facility. Bradford Hills staff members are not permitted to transport animals for any reason. Please be sure to list emergency contacts on your check-in forms should an emergency occur.

Yes! Our staff are trained to handle pet guests with medical conditions such as these and more. We are happy to care for your pets that require extra medical attention. Please note that we do charge additional fees for medication and supplement administration.

We cannot accept any medications or supplements that are outside of their original labeled containers. Prescription drugs must be in their original labeled containers showing the drug name, pet name, dosage, and prescribing veterinarian. Please do not bring medications or supplements in baggies or other containers; these will not be accepted, as there is no way for our staff to confirm what the medication is or how it should be administered when it is outside its original labeled container.

Please be as specific as possible when filling out the check-in form regarding medication dosage and times to help ensure your pet receives all medications as required.

If an animal is found to have any parasites (internal or external) or is diagnosed with any transferable disease during their stay, they must be moved to isolation and charged the isolation fee. Once an animal is admitted into isolation, they must remain in isolation until they have completed treatment, remain symptom-free for 48 hours, test negative (if applicable), and be cleared by a veterinarian to return to the general population (or if an owner or emergency contact elects to check out the pet).

Yes! Bradford Hills Veterinary Hospital clients do receive discounts on pet stays at the Pet Hotel. Call today for discounted pricing! The pet must have been seen by one of our veterinarians within the past year to be eligible for the discount.
